Our approach to cookies
The Humanitarian Games Catalogue takes a minimal approach to cookies and browser storage. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or any third-party services that set cookies to profile you across websites.
We use browser localStorage (not cookies in the traditional sense) to store small pieces of information on your device that improve your experience. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

Third-party content and cookies
Some pages may load resources from third-party CDNs:
- Cloudflare CDN (Font Awesome) — icon fonts loaded from Cloudflare's network. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — the contact, subscribe and feedback forms may load Turnstile to check that a submission comes from a person rather than an automated script. It is designed as a privacy-preserving alternative to a CAPTCHA and is not used to track you across sites.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics — where configured, a small script counts page views. It sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device; see below.
These providers may set their own cookies. We do not control these cookies and recommend reviewing the linked privacy policies if you have concerns.
The typefaces the site is set in are served from this site rather than from Google Fonts, so displaying a page makes no font request to Google and reveals nothing to them about your visit.
No advertising or analytics cookies
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other advertising or cross-site tracking service. We do not sell or share data with advertisers.
We do measure how our own games are played — which chapters are completed, and where players stop. Where that measurement is handled by PostHog, events are sent directly from the page to PostHog's European infrastructure and are tied only to the random session identifier described above. No cookie is set for this, and no person profile is created.
We also count page views, so we know which parts of the catalogue are read. Where that is handled by Cloudflare Web Analytics, it is deliberately a service that cannot track you: it sets no cookie, writes nothing to your browser's storage, and does not fingerprint your device, so it has no way to recognise you between one page and the next — let alone on another website. It sees the page address, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, and an approximate country worked out from your IP address, which is not stored.
How to manage your browser storage
You can clear localStorage data at any time through your browser's developer tools or privacy settings:
- Chrome/Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data → Cached images and files, Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Clear Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
Clearing this data will reset your theme preference and any saved game progress.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to our site. Material changes will be noted by updating the “last updated” date above.
